Articulating and telescopic boom lifts dismantled, packed and shipped from Australia
Boom lifts are one of the machines we pack most often, and one of the easiest to get wrong. We have done them all, and learned from the issues that can arise when they are handled by an inexperienced partner. As a result, our dismantling partners are given clear instructions on the dismantling required, so there are no surprises at the other end. From properly balancing the container load to draining fluids from hubs and other components, we make sure your shipment with RAD Global Freight is a smooth one.
We ship boom lifts out of Australia from hire companies, auction companies and dealers to clients across Asia, Africa and South America. Individual boom lifts up to the JLG 600AJ (60 ft) can in some cases be packed into a 20’ GP, but we typically find the sweet spot that makes buying from Australia viable is packing multiple units up to JLG 660SJ size into a 40’ HC. 40’ HC freight is economical, typically costing only around 30% more than a 20’ GP.
Larger models can also be packed into a 40’ HC by splitting the chassis at the sprocket, as long as the upper structure does not exceed 12 m once the basket and jib are removed. For those wanting minimal dismantling and scratching of their larger boom lifts, a 40’ Open Top High Cube or 40’ Flat Rack is recommended.
These are boom lifts we regularly pack into 40’ containers. Larger models may need dismantling, an open top high cube or a flat rack, and we confirm the right setup for your machine before booking.
Model names are given for identification only. Every machine is checked against its exact specification before we confirm the container. Don’t see your model? Send us the details.
We provide photos of the machine and its serial plate once it is back at our packing depot.
For larger boom lifts, dismantling is required to achieve a configuration suitable for containerisation. Dismantling varies by unit, but can include removing the wheels, hubs, basket or jib, or even separating the upper and lower chassis at the sprocket.
The boom lift is driven or lifted into the container. Where two non-drivable units are being consolidated, container skates are used to get the first unit to the rear of the container. The units are then lowered onto timber dunnage, chocked and strapped down. Where the basket has been removed, the boom is in some cases strapped upwards in multiple directions to prevent movement.
Post-pack photos are provided to show the completed packing process and the lashings used.
Containers are weighed to verify their mass and comply with local transport rules as well as maritime regulations.
Draft bills of lading are provided to the client for review before export from Australia.
Real boom lifts packed by our team, from preparation through to lashing and sealing.
For smaller units, it depends on how many boom lifts are being packed together. Baskets are typically removed from larger units for consolidation and container balance.
We have typically found RoRo only works for export shipments to Singapore or Laem Chabang, where the boom lift would otherwise need major dismantling to fit inside a container. RoRo rates to other parts of the world are prohibitive from Australia.
Yes. For boom lifts of 66 ft (JLG 660SJ size) and smaller, we can consolidate two units per container. For smaller units like the Genie Z-34, three units per container is possible.
It depends on the models involved, but it is generally possible. Straight booms are typically longer than knuckle booms, so they are generally not compatible with larger scissor lifts such as the Genie GS-3268, the JLG 4394RT or larger.
Yes, absolutely. We do this regularly for shipments to India and Vietnam, where margins are tight and your supply chain must be protected.
